About Mike Michalak - The 60 Second Angler

Mike is an award winning and veteran TV news director and anchor, radio program director and morning drive DJ, play-by-play announcer and published author, whose love for fishing grew on his parent's resort on Bird Lake in Oneida County, WI. He's the former president of Fishing Hot Spots, the nation's largest publisher of fishing maps and digital fishing information. He's now general manager of Guide's Choice Pro Shop, one of the largest muskie retailers. He's also the voice for Joe Bucher's outdoor programs.

This is fishing for the common, everyday angler. Not so much how to fish, but how to get ready to fish. This unique approach is ground level, entertaining enough for the experienced, yet basic enough for the novice. Will he be on the water? You bet! With tips and techniques proven time and again. His conversational approach is used in seminars for many sports shows and sporting goods stores across the country.

And there are many, many more like fishing for trophy bass in California, Florida and Texas…trout in Nevada…walleye and muskie in Michigan, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois…and wetting a line or two in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Missouri, Alabama, Washington State, Kentucky and Tennessee.

He's fished with some of the top pros and celebrities in the business like Tony Dean, Al & Ron Lindner, Kevin Van Dam, Mike Theyerl, Leon Houle, Gary Parsons, Larry Nixon, Jerry Dean, Rick Krueger, Pete Maina, Perry Good, Ted Takasaki, Greg Bohn, John Peterson and others. All this experience has given him a wealth of information to share and it's neatly packaged in every edition of the 60-Second Angler.

Mike serves on the pro-staff and/or represents: Alumacraft, M & J Marine, Mercury, St. Croix Rod, Mepps, Minn Kota, Berkley and Fishing Hot Spots.

But can he catch fish?

If you're going to do a fishing show there has to be some fishing background. Mike has ventured from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico up to the Northwest Territories of Canada and plenty of spots in between for fish. Because he's on the water by himself most of the time there aren't a lot of pictures but the ones that were snapped deserve sharing…

  • Like the 3 pound grayling on the Dubawnt River system above the 60th parallel
  • A 9-foot, 340 pound blue marlin 70 miles into the Pacific out of Cabo San Lucas
  • A northern WI 52", 40# muskie
  • Lake Erie gave up a 30 & 31-inch walleye
  • An Ontario northern tipping the scales at 20# and 40-inches
  • A 20# lake trout on Lake Michigan out of Two Rivers, WI
